We cut and program Ford keys at your vehicle in Las Vegas, Henderson and North Las Vegas, 24 hours a day and every day of the year. Ford chip keys, remote head keys and smart fobs are all made on site, so a truck at a job site or a Mustang in a garage does not need a tow.
Lost the only key to your Ford? Read our guide to lost car keys with no spare, then give us a call, because a new key can be made from the lock and programmed to the vehicle right where it sits.
- Chip keys came earlyFord started putting transponder chips in its keys in the mid 1990s, which is earlier than many other automakers did.
- Two keys helpSome Fords can learn an extra key when two working keys are present, so a spare is cheaper while you still have both.
- Fleet friendly serviceWe regularly make F150 and van keys at company yards and active job sites around the valley.
- One visit does itCutting, programming and testing all happen during the same stop, so you are not waiting on a second appointment.

Which Ford Key Do You Have?
Ford moved from plain cut keys to chip keys in the mid 1990s, and remote head keys followed in later years. Many newer Fords use a smart key with push to start.
- Plain cut keyOlder Fords from before the chip era use an all metal key with no electronics. It only needs cutting to match the locks, so it is the quickest Ford key to replace.
- Chip keyThis Ford key has a thick black head that hides a small transponder chip. The engine will crank but will not stay running without a programmed chip, so the new key is cut and then paired to the vehicle.
- Remote head keyThe lock buttons and the chip share one head on this style, which many Fords from around 2010 onward use. We cut the blade and program both the chip and the remote side.
- Smart key with push to startFord calls this system Intelligent Access, and the fob stays in your pocket while you drive. In most cases we program a replacement to the vehicle on site and cut its emergency blade.
Ford Models and Their Keys
Ford Mustang

Mustangs built before the mid 1990s use a plain cut key, chip keys arrived around 1996, and many cars from about 2015 onward use a smart key with push to start.
Ford F150

Older F150s use plain cut keys, chip keys arrived around the late 1990s to early 2000s, and later trucks moved to remote head keys, with a push to start smart key on many upper trims.
Ford Escape

The Escape has used chip keys since it launched in 2001, so every replacement needs programming, while later models moved to remote head keys and many newer ones use a smart key with push to start.
Ford Explorer

Early Explorers use plain cut keys, chip keys became standard by the late 1990s, and later generations added remote head keys before many newer Explorers moved to push to start.
Ford Edge

The Edge launched around 2007 with chip keys, often paired with a separate remote or built into a remote head, and smart keys with push to start appeared on higher trims a few years later.
Ford Fusion

The Fusion launched in 2006 with a chip key that must be programmed after cutting, and later cars moved to remote head keys, with a smart key on many higher trims from the 2013 redesign onward.
Ford Fiesta

The Fiesta sold in the US from around 2011 uses a chip key, most often built as a remote head key, although some higher trims came with push to start.
How We Make a New Ford Key
- 1
Share the details
Tell us the Ford model, the model year and how many working keys you still have, since that changes the process.
- 2
Show ID and paperwork
We need photo identification plus the registration or title before we make any key for the vehicle.
- 3
Cut and pair the key
The blade is cut on site, and then the chip or smart fob is paired to your Ford's security system.
- 4
Drive away confident
Once the new key starts the engine and operates the locks, you are back on the road without a trip to the dealer.
What a Ford Key Costs in Las Vegas
A basic cut key for an older Ford usually costs $50 to $180 in Las Vegas, and a chip key with programming is usually $150 to $350. Smart keys for newer Fords typically run higher than chip keys, and a lockout is typically $45 to $135.
On a Ford, the price depends most on the key type and on whether you still have a working key in hand. Nights, weekends and holidays usually add $25 to $75, and our page on what a locksmith costs in Las Vegas explains the rest.
Make a Spare Before You Need One
Many Fords make it simple to add a key while working keys are available, so a spare costs far less now than after every key is lost. Once the last key is gone, the job grows into making a key from the lock and resetting the vehicle's key memory. A spare is one of the most affordable car keys jobs we do.
Owning a Ford in Las Vegas
Fords are the trucks of choice for many Las Vegas contractors, and F150s get parked in dusty lots and job sites all across the valley. Keys fall out of pockets on ladders and slide around truck beds. Classic Mustang owners usually face the opposite problem, an original key worn thin after decades of use, and we handle both situations at the job site or in your driveway.

Questions We Get Asked
Does my 1998 Ford Mustang have a chip key?
Most likely it does, because Ford added transponder keys to the Mustang around 1996, so a 1998 key usually holds a chip the car must recognize. A plain cut copy may open the doors but will not keep the engine running. We can cut and program a proper chip key at your location.
Can you make a key for a 2005 Ford F150?
Yes, a 2005 F150 uses a transponder key, since chip keys reached the F150 around the late 1990s to early 2000s, and many trucks also have a separate remote for the locks. We cut the key, program the chip, and can pair a remote to the truck right where it is parked, with the price given before we start.
Can you add a second key fob to my Ford if I only have one?
Yes, in most cases, and adding a second key while you still have a working one is usually simpler than replacing every key after a loss. We program the new fob to your Ford on site, and you will know the price before any work starts on your vehicle.
Why use a locksmith instead of the Ford dealer?
A mobile locksmith comes directly to you, so you skip the tow and the trip across town. We are open around the clock and can make and program most Ford keys wherever your vehicle sits. You can learn more about our vehicle services on our automotive locksmith page before you call.
