Pick your car, answer three quick questions about how it starts and what your key looks like, and the finder tells you which key you have, what it takes to replace it, a national price range and what to have ready. Then call or text us with the details already filled in.
Key Types at a Glance
Every car key falls into one of six groups. Read how each one is cut and programmed on our car keys page, or if you are locked out right now, go straight to vehicle lockouts.
Questions We Get Asked
How do I know if my car key has a chip?
A chip key usually has a thick plastic head, while a plain key is all metal. If the head is plastic and the car came out in the last 25 years or so, it most likely has a chip. The finder treats any plastic head key as a chip key, and the technician confirms it at the car.
Can a locksmith make a key if I lost every key?
Yes, for most cars a locksmith can make a new key from the car itself, even with no key to copy. It takes more work than a copy, so making a spare while you still have one key is the cheaper path.
What do I need to have ready?
Have your photo ID and the vehicle registration or title ready. We confirm ownership before we make any car key, the same way a dealer does.
Are the prices on the finder your prices?
No. The ranges are national estimates from Airtasker's car key guide, updated 19 May 2026. Call us with the year, make and model and we give you our price before any work starts.
