Geo stopped selling cars after the 1997 model year, but plenty of Metros, Prizms and Trackers still operate around Las Vegas as inexpensive, dependable daily drivers. We cut new Geo keys at your car, 24/7, in Las Vegas, Henderson and North Las Vegas, and most Geo keys are plain cut keys, so the job is usually quick and the price stays low.
If you lost the only key, we can still produce one by decoding the lock or by using the original key code. Our page on lost car keys with no spare explains what documents to have ready before you call.
- No chip on mostGeo badged cars from 1989 to 1997 mostly use plain metal keys with no transponder chip in the head.
- Chevy laterThe Metro, Prizm and Tracker continued under the Chevrolet name for several years after the Geo brand ended.
- Worn keysA key that has been used for 30 years wears down, and a fresh one cut to the original code usually operates better.
- Worn locks tooIf the key sticks or turns hard, the lock cylinder may be worn, and we will tell you plainly what we find.

Which Geo Key Do You Have?
Geo cars were manufactured by partners like Suzuki, Toyota and Isuzu and sold through Chevrolet dealers, and almost all of them use simple metal keys.
- Plain cut keyThis is the key most Geo owners carry, a metal blade with no electronics in the head. We can cut one from the original key code or by decoding the door lock when no key is left.
- Separate door and ignition keysSome Geos came with two different keys, one for the ignition and another for the doors and trunk. If you only have one of them, we can produce the other key to match your locks.
- Chevy era chip keyThe same models sold as Chevrolets after 1997 moved to transponder keys in some years. If your car wears a Chevy badge, tell us so we bring the correct key and programming equipment.
Geo Models and Their Keys
Geo Metro

The Geo Metro was sold from 1989 to 1997 and uses a plain cut key with no transponder chip. The same car continued as the Chevy Metro until 2001, so if yours wears a Chevrolet badge, mention the model year when you call.
Geo Prizm

The Geo Prizm was built alongside the Toyota Corolla and sold from 1989 to 1997, and Geo badged Prizms use a plain cut key. Later Chevy Prizms may have a transponder chip in the key, so the badge on the trunk matters.
Geo Spectrum

The Spectrum is a small Isuzu built car that carried the Geo badge only in its final year, 1989, and it uses a plain cut key. These cars are rare now, and an original worn key that barely turns is very common.
Geo Storm

The Storm was a small sport coupe sold from 1990 to 1993, and it uses a plain cut key with no transponder chip. We can cut a replacement by decoding the lock if the original key is gone for good.
Geo Tracker

The Geo Tracker was sold from 1989 to 1997 and uses plain cut keys during those years. The Tracker continued under the Chevrolet name into the 2000s, and some of those later vehicles moved to transponder keys.
How We Make a New Geo Key
- 1
Check the badge
Tell us whether the car says Geo or Chevrolet on the back, and give us the model year from the registration.
- 2
We come out
We drive to the vehicle, whether it sits at your home, at work or in a store parking lot.
- 3
Read the lock
With no key to copy, we determine the correct cut by decoding the lock or by using the original key code.
- 4
Try it everywhere
We test the new key in the ignition, both doors and the hatch before we pack up and leave.
What a Geo Key Costs in Las Vegas
Most Geo keys are basic cut keys, and those usually run $50 to $180 in Las Vegas, depending on the time of day and whether you have a key we can copy. On top of that, nights, weekends and holidays usually add $25 to $75.
A later Chevrolet version with a transponder chip costs more, typically $150 to $350 with programming included. Our guide to what a locksmith costs in Las Vegas explains what else moves the number.
Make a Spare Before You Need One
A plain Geo key is one of the least expensive keys to copy while you still have the original in hand. Producing one with no key to work from takes longer, because we have to decode the lock or locate the code first, so spending a little now prevents a bigger bill later. See the other car keys we make for older vehicles.
Owning a Geo in Las Vegas
Small Geos make practical commuter cars in Las Vegas, and many have stayed in one family since they were new. Original door locks dry out in the desert heat, and worn keys can bend or snap inside a stiff cylinder, so a fresh key that turns easier also protects the lock from additional wear.
