Most house lockouts we attend follow the same four steps, from the moment you telephone us to the moment you are standing back inside your own home.

  • How fast we get thereA technician normally arrives within 20 to 30 minutes, day or night, depending on traffic and on which part of the valley you are calling from.
  • What it costsYou hear the price on the telephone before anyone is dispatched. Across Las Vegas a residential lockout usually costs between $85 and $195, depending on the lock and the hour.
  • How we open the doorOur technicians pick the lock or use a bypass tool in almost every situation, and drilling is a rare last resort that we always explain before starting.
  • What to have readyIdentification that shows the property address, or a lease or closing statement if you have only recently moved in and your documents have not caught up yet.

What Happens When You Call

Tell us the address, which door you are locked out of, and roughly what the lock looks like. A knob, a deadbolt, a smart lock and a sliding patio door each require different tools, so a quick description allows us to give you an accurate price before anyone sets off.

If a child or a pet is shut inside, or something is cooking on the stove, mention it immediately and we will prioritize the job as a genuine emergency. If anyone is in danger, call 911 first. While you wait, please do not force a window, because broken glass and a damaged frame cost far more than the lockout itself.

How We Get You Back Inside

Most residential locks open without any damage at all. Our technicians pick the mechanism, slip the latch or use a bypass tool, which leaves your door, your frame and your existing hardware exactly as they were before you got locked out.

A small number of locks genuinely have to be drilled, usually because the mechanism has failed internally or because it is a high security cylinder designed to resist picking. When that is the situation we explain it before starting, and we can install a replacement lock during the same visit.

What a House Lockout Costs in Las Vegas

You receive the price on the telephone before a technician is dispatched. The figure depends on the type of lock and the time of day, and evenings, weekends and public holidays cost more than an ordinary weekday afternoon. What should never change the price is the technician arriving at your door.

Across Las Vegas, residential lockouts usually cost between $85 and $195. Our price guide explains what moves that number, and our guide to locksmith scams describes the warning signs of a quotation that increases once the locksmith is standing on your doorstep.

After You Are Back In

If your keys were lost or stolen, consider rekeying the lock while the technician is still there. A rekey rearranges the pins inside your existing lock so every previous key stops working, and residential rekeys begin at $79.99. We can also cut spare keys on the spot.

To prevent the next lockout, leave a spare key with someone you trust, or ask us about a keypad or smart lock that never needs a key at all. Our article on whether to rekey or replace your locks will help you decide which option makes sense.

Where We Cover

We are a mobile service covering the entire Las Vegas valley, including Summerlin, Spring Valley, Enterprise, Paradise, Henderson and North Las Vegas. Houses, condominiums, apartments and mobile homes are all handled by the same telephone number and the same technicians.

House Lockouts by Area

Choose your part of the valley for local details. The telephone number and the typical response time are identical everywhere.

A house lockout feels like an emergency, but most of them follow the same short path. You check a few safe things, you work out why the door will not open, and then the right tool does the job without hurting your lock. This guide walks that path in the order a pro uses, so you know what to try, what to leave alone and what to say when you call.

Everything below is written for Las Vegas homes, from single family houses to condos and rentals behind gates. Prices come from third party guides with the date named, because the number you hear on the phone should always be a number you understand.

The short version

If you only have a minute, these are the points that matter most.

  • Check the easy outs firstLook for a second door, a garage keypad, a spare key holder, a smart lock app and a person with a key. This takes two minutes and solves more lockouts than you would think.
  • Never force a window or a doorA broken pane or a split frame costs more than almost any lockout. If a child, a pet or a hot stove is inside, call 911 first.
  • Pick or bypass should be the planMost house locks open without damage. Drilling is a last resort and a locksmith should explain it before starting.
  • Know the going rateYelp's cost guide, updated October 2026, puts a normal hours lockout at $125 to $200 and a trip fee at about $75. A quote far below that is a warning sign.
  • Lost keys mean a rekeyIf your key is gone and not just locked inside, have the lock rekeyed so the missing key stops working. Rekeys with us start at $79.99.
  • Verify before you open the doorAsk for the license number and check it. Ours is City of Las Vegas Locksmith License #P64 00012 and you can look it up with the City.

What you can safely check before you call

Stay calm for two minutes and walk the outside of the house. Try every door you know about, including the side gate, the garage entry door and the back slider. People lock the front door and forget the back one was never latched.

Think about who else has a way in. A spouse, a roommate, a neighbor with a spare or a property manager can end the problem without a service call. If you rent, your property manager often holds a key, and calling them first costs nothing.

If you have a smart lock, open the app on your phone and try a guest code or the keypad. Many keypad locks also carry a physical key override, and some brands have a small port that lets you power the lock with a battery for a moment. Schlage's smart lock page, for example, describes a backup key or a jumpstart port on its electronic locks.

Here is what to leave alone. Do not break a window, do not pry the frame and do not try to shim a deadbolt with a tool you have never used. Deadbolts do not slip open the way a spring latch can, and the damage you cause will be the expensive part of the day. If anyone is in danger, call 911 first.

Why the door will not open and what a pro does about it

A locksmith starts by asking what kind of lockout this is, because the cause decides the tool. Work through the list below from the top. The earlier items are the most common and the cheapest to fix.

House lockout causes in the order a pro works them

Each cause in more detail

A caught latch is the cheapest case. The bolt is sitting in the strike plate but the door is not deadlocked, so a bypass tool or a thin tool slipped at the right angle can retract it. This is where a good locksmith saves your door finish, because a bad try with a screwdriver leaves a dent forever.

A thrown deadbolt with the keys inside is a picking job. The pins in the cylinder are set one at a time with tension on the plug. It takes skill and a quiet hand, and the lock is still yours when it is done. We pick the lock or use a bypass tool in almost every situation and we explain drilling before we start if a lock truly needs it.

A lost key is a different problem even if the door opens. Anyone who finds the key and knows the address can walk in. That is why we suggest a rekey right after the lockout, since a rekey changes the pins inside your existing lock so every old key stops working.

A smart lock lockout is usually power or pairing. If the batteries are dead, the key override or a battery jump gets you in, then you swap the cells. If the electronics have failed, the lock is replaced and we can install a new one in the same visit. A smart lock never needs a key once it is working again, which is a real way to stop repeat lockouts.

What a house lockout costs and how to read a quote

Yelp's rekeying cost guide, updated October 2026, lists a $125 to $200 lockout during normal business hours, a trip fee that averages $75 and rises to $150 or more if you live far from the locksmith's service area, and a rekey that averages $140 with the minimum fee included. It also says a new lock with installation averages about $400, and it puts after hours or holiday calls at roughly $95 more on average.

Those numbers help you read any quote. If someone offers a price far under the trip fee, the rest of the bill is waiting at your door. The Federal Trade Commission has long told people to research a locksmith ahead of time and save the number in its 2008 locksmith advice. Our own locksmith cost guide breaks down what moves a Las Vegas price.

The Las Vegas angle

Heat is the first local factor. Current Results, using NOAA 1991 to 2020 climate normals, lists the Las Vegas July average high at 105 degrees and the average low at 82. Batteries, keypads and sealed hardware live in that heat on a door that faces the afternoon sun. Check the manual for your smart lock's temperature rating, and replace the batteries on a schedule instead of waiting for a warning at the worst time.

Gated communities and guard houses are the second factor. A technician cannot reach you if the gate will not open. Tell the guard or the gate system we are coming, give the gate code if you have one, and meet us at the entrance if the community has rules about visitors. Your association's own documents decide what the rules are, so check them if you are unsure.

Rentals bring their own steps. Call the property manager before you call anyone else, because they may hold a key or need to approve work on the lock. If you ask for a lock change as a tenant, know that Nevada's landlord tenant law at NRS 118A.345 lets a tenant in certain domestic violence situations require a new lock, paid for by the tenant, and the landlord can meet it by rekeying a lock that is in good working condition.

Condo towers and apartments near the Strip and downtown add one more layer. Building staff often control fobs, garage doors and elevators, so tell us the building name, the floor and which entrance to use. For related local help, see our pages for Summerlin lockouts and Henderson lockouts, and our full residential locksmith service.

What to tell us on the phone

A clear call gets you an accurate price and the right tools on the truck. Have these ready.

The street address and the nearest cross street. The gate code, guard house name or building entrance if there is one. Which door you are locked out of and what the lock looks like, such as a knob, a deadbolt, a keypad or a slider latch. Whether any key is lost or whether the keys are simply inside. Whether a child, a pet or the stove is a concern.

Also tell us whether you have identification with the property address, or a lease or closing statement if you just moved in. Any reputable locksmith asks, because opening a door for the wrong person is the worst mistake in this trade. Ask for the price on the phone and ask what could change it before anyone sets out.

How to check any locksmith before you let them in

Start with the license. Ask for the number and look it up. Silver State Locksmith holds City of Las Vegas Locksmith License #P64 00012, and the City of Las Vegas lets you search business licenses on its license search page. Our license page shows how to check ours.

Next, confirm the name on the truck and the technician match the company you called. Ask for the price again at the door. Our guide to locksmith scams in Las Vegas lists the warning signs, including a quote that grows once the work starts.

If something goes wrong, you have places to report it. The Nevada Attorney General takes consumer and fraud complaints on its complaint page, and the FTC collects reports at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. You can also dispute a charge you did not agree to with your card issuer.

After you are back inside

Do three things once the door is open. First, decide whether the lost key means a rekey. Our guide on whether it is cheaper to replace locks or rekey helps you choose.

Second, put a spare somewhere safe, with someone you trust, not under the mat. Third, think about a keypad or smart lock if lockouts keep happening. If you only need to change keys now and then, some Kwikset locks use a SmartKey system that lets you rekey yourself with a tool, but Kwikset's SmartKey page says you need your current working key to do it, and a lost key means a locksmith.

Questions We Get Asked

How much does a house lockout cost in Las Vegas?

Most residential lockouts in Las Vegas cost between $85 and $195, depending on the lock and the time of day. We give you our price on the telephone before anyone is dispatched, so there is no unpleasant surprise waiting at the door.

How fast can you get to me?

A technician normally reaches you within 20 to 30 minutes, day or night, depending on traffic and on which part of the valley you are calling from.

Will you damage my door or lock?

Almost never. We pick the lock or use a bypass tool first, and if a lock genuinely has to be drilled, we explain the reason before starting any work.

Do I need to prove I live there?

Yes, and any reputable locksmith should ask. Identification showing the address is the simplest answer, and if you have only just moved in, a lease or a closing statement is normally sufficient.

Can you make a new key while you are here?

Yes. We can cut keys at your door, and if a key was lost we can rekey the lock so the missing one stops working immediately. Residential rekeys begin at $79.99.

Are you open at night and on holidays?

Yes. We answer the telephone 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Overnight visits cost more than daytime appointments, and we always confirm that price with you before dispatching a technician.

What if my smart lock battery died and I am locked out?

Try the key override first, since many keypad locks have one. Some brands also have a power port that wakes the lock with a battery for one use, as Schlage describes for its electronic locks. If neither works, call us and we will open the door and help you replace the batteries or the lock.

Can I call a locksmith if I rent and my landlord is not answering?

Yes, but expect to show proof you live there, such as a lease. Call your property manager first because they may hold a key or need to approve lock work. If you cannot reach them, tell us on the phone and we will explain what we can do.

What if my key broke off inside the lock?

Do not push the piece deeper or try to pull it with pliers. A locksmith can extract the broken half, cut a new key and check that the lock is still in good shape. If the lock is worn, we can replace the cylinder in the same visit.

Do I need new locks after a house lockout?

Not if you only left the keys inside. If a key was lost or stolen, a rekey is the usual fix because it makes the missing key useless and costs less than new hardware. Third party guides such as Yelp's cost guide put a new lock with installation near $400 against about $140 for a rekey.

How do I get a technician into a gated community?

Give us the gate code or tell the guard we are coming, and give the street and the entrance name. If the community needs a visitor pass, meet us at the gate. Your association's documents set the rules, so check them before the call if you can.

We also handle all residential lock work, vehicle lockouts and office lockouts. Whatever you happen to be locked out of, the telephone number is exactly the same.
