Mercury closed after the 2011 model year, but many Grand Marquis sedans, Mariners and Milans still drive around Las Vegas every day. We cut and program Mercury keys at your vehicle, 24/7, in Las Vegas, Henderson and North Las Vegas, and most Mercurys from the late 1990s on use a transponder key, which we program right at the car.

If you lost the only key, start with our page on lost car keys with no spare, because a Mercury with no key can still get a replacement without a tow.

  • Ford underneathMercurys share their keys with the Ford vehicles they were built from, so replacement parts are still easy to find.
  • Chip keysMost Mercurys from the late 1990s on need a programmed transponder key before the engine will run.
  • Two keys helpWith two working keys in hand, many of these vehicles can learn a third key more easily.
  • Older carsWe make keys for Mercurys that are 15 to 30 years old on a regular basis.

Which Mercury Key Do You Have?

Mercury moved from plain cut keys to transponder keys in the late 1990s, and some later models added remote head keys with the buttons built into the key.

  • Plain cut keyMercurys from before the late 1990s use a metal key with no electronics inside, which we cut from the original key code or by decoding the lock.
  • Chip keyIt looks like a plain key with a thick plastic head, and the transponder chip inside has to be programmed to the vehicle, because otherwise the engine will crank and then shut right off.
  • Remote head keySome later Mercurys placed the lock buttons into the head of the transponder key. We cut the blade, program the chip and pair the remote in a single visit.
  • Separate remoteMany Mercurys use a transponder key plus a small remote on the ring, and we can replace a missing remote and pair it to the vehicle.

Grand Marquis sedans from the early to mid 1990s use a plain cut key, and transponder keys arrived around the late 1990s and remained until production ended in 2011. Most use a separate remote, although some later years may differ.

Older Sables use a plain cut key, and transponder keys arrived around the late 1990s. The Sable name returned for 2008 and 2009, and those cars use a transponder key as well.

Mercury Mystique

The Mystique was sold from 1995 to 2000, and early cars use a plain cut key while later ones may have a transponder key. Look at your key head or give us the VIN, and we will identify which one you have.

How We Make a New Mercury Key

  1. 1

    Find the year

The model year on your registration tells us whether the replacement key needs a transponder chip.

  2. 2

    We come over

We drive to the vehicle, whether it sits at your home, at work or in a parking lot.

  3. 3

    Cut it

We cut the replacement key to match your Mercury's door and ignition locks exactly.

  4. 4

    Teach the car

We program the transponder chip and any remote, then start the engine to prove everything works.

What a Mercury Key Costs in Las Vegas

A plain cut key for an older Mercury usually runs $50 to $180 in Las Vegas, and a chip key with programming is typically $150 to $350. For either one, nights, weekends and holidays usually add $25 to $75.

What moves the price is the key type, whether there is a remote, and whether you have a working key, and our guide to what a locksmith costs in Las Vegas covers the remaining details.

Make a Spare Before You Need One

Mercury dealers are gone, so a lost key means calling a locksmith either way. Copying a working key now is much simpler and less expensive than starting from nothing later, and the spare belongs in the house instead of the glovebox. See the other car keys we make.

Owning a Mercury in Las Vegas

A lot of Grand Marquis sedans in Las Vegas have stayed with one owner for years and mostly see short trips around town. Original remotes wear out and their batteries die faster in the summer heat, and we can replace a remote or a key at your home or in a store parking lot.
