We make and program Volvo keys at your vehicle in Las Vegas, Henderson and North Las Vegas, 24 hours a day. Older Volvos use a transponder key with a remote, while newer Volvos use a smart fob with a start button or knob, and a few newer models need the dealer for one step, and we tell you up front if yours is one of them.

If you lost the only key, our page on lost car keys with no spare explains what to do next, because most Volvos can still get a replacement key without a tow.

  • Start knobMany Volvos from the late 2010s on start with a twist knob on the center console instead of a button.
  • Slot fobVolvos from around the late 2000s to the late 2010s often use a fob that slides into the dashboard.
  • Two S90sThe S90 name was used in the late 1990s and again from 2017, and the keys are completely different.
  • Hidden bladeVolvo fobs hold a small metal key for the driver door when the battery finally dies.

Which Volvo Key Do You Have?

Volvo used transponder keys with remote heads through the 2000s, then a fob that slides into the dashboard, and now a keyless fob on newer models.

  • Chip key with remote headVolvos from the late 1990s to the late 2000s use a key with a transponder chip and lock buttons in the head, and we cut the blade and program both the chip and the remote.
  • Slot fobThis is a plastic fob with no fixed blade that you push into the dashboard before pressing start, and many Volvos from around 2008 to 2018 used this design.
  • Keyless fobNewer Volvos use a fob that stays in your pocket while you turn the start knob or press the button, and we program it on site for most model years.
  • Older Volvo keyVolvos from before the late 1990s use a plain or transponder key with a separate remote, which is simple to cut and quick to replace.

How We Make a New Volvo Key

  1. 1

    Give us the VIN

We match the VIN to the exact fob your Volvo was originally built to use.

  2. 2

    Hear the plan

We explain the price and whether any dealer step applies before we drive out to you.

  3. 3

    Program the fob

We cut any emergency blade and add the replacement fob to the vehicle's list of keys.

  4. 4

    Test the knob

We start the engine and check keyless entry and the power tailgate with the new fob.

What a Volvo Key Costs in Las Vegas

A transponder key with a remote head for an older Volvo typically runs $150 to $350 in Las Vegas. Volvo smart fobs cost more than that, because the fob is more expensive and the setup takes longer, and nights, weekends and holidays usually add $25 to $75.

The model year, the fob type and whether you have a working key all change the price, and our automotive locksmith page shows what else we handle for vehicles.

Make a Spare Before You Need One

A Volvo with one working fob can accept a second one quickly, because the vehicle already has a key we can start from. With no fob left, the car requires more work before it will learn a new one, so have a spare made while it is still the easy job. See the other car keys we make.

Owning a Volvo in Las Vegas

Volvo owners in Las Vegas park in hot lots, school pickup lines and office garages throughout the year, and summer heat can wear down a fob battery until the vehicle stops recognizing it. Try a new battery first, and call us if the car still does not respond.
